Overview
Our team was engaged by a major client in Sweden to carry out a large‑scale server decommissioning project involving the safe removal, packing, and secure consolidation of 113 data‑centre devices. The goal was to complete the work efficiently, maintain strict chain‑of‑custody controls, and prepare all equipment for onward transport—without causing any operational disruption. Throughout the project, the client was regularly and proactively informed of progress, ensuring complete transparency at every stage.
Project Scope
The project consisted of two key workstreams within the same facility:
- Secure Cage Relocation
- 30 devices removed from racks
- Safely transported into a designated security cage for secure temporary holding
- Decommissioning, Packing & Palletisation
- 83 additional devices removed from racks
- Professionally packed, wrapped, and palletised, fully prepared for transport
Preparation & Resourcing
To ensure seamless execution, the following preparation took place:
- Material Sourcing
- Anti‑static packaging, protective materials, and palletisation supplies were procured in advance.
- Engineer Deployment
- Qualified data‑centre engineers with the required experience and certifications were sourced and briefed.
- Planning & Client Coordination
- Detailed workflow planning and risk assessments were completed.
- The client received proactive status updates throughout the planning phase to maintain alignment and confidence.
Execution
The on‑site work was completed within a 4‑hour operational window, executed safely and efficiently:
- Serial numbers formally verified
- Controlled de‑racking of all 113 units
- 30 devices moved to the secure cage with chain‑of‑custody maintained
- 83 devices packed and palletised for transport
- Pallets labelled and sealed
- Regular progress updates communicated to the client during each stage of dismantling, packing, and final verification
- Final sign‑off completed together with the client
